Plan FAQ

How long can I take a car?

Take a car for a few hours or a few days. Upshift is built for convenience and flexibility.

What counts as "1 day"?

1 day is any period up to 24 hours, even if that period crosses midnight. Request your car within our full service zone and we’ll have it to you in 30-45 minutes.

Do I have to use all of my days on one trip?

Drive whenever you want. Days don't need to be consecutive.

When does my billing cycle start?

Plans renew 1 month after you set them up, rather than the calendar month. If you sign up for Upshift on the 8th, for example, your billing cycle will always start on the 8th of the month.

Can I share a plan?

Yes, plans can be shared, but only with your significant other or with other employees of your company.

Can I join with an international driver’s license?

Sure can! International and domestic members are all welcome.

What if I want to drive for more days than my plan allows?

Additional days beyond your plan cost $69 (?php), $79 (Freedom) or $89 (Getaway).

Is there a minimum commitment?

Nope! You can cancel any time. Please note that plan changes have a 3 month minimum commitment.

Can I try Upshift to see if I like it?

Upshift is the smart alternative to owning your own car. If you don't agree after your first day, we'll refund your subscription.

What is the activation fee?

This is a one time non-refundable $750 fee to get you started with Upshift. You will be charged this when your membership is approved. This is separate from your monthly payment.

What kind of cars are available?

You can swap between a Toyota Prius and a Toyota RAV4 hybrid SUV depending on your needs. All of our cars are identical down to the spec, trim, and white paint so you always feel like you are driving “your” car.

Is there a mileage limit?

Getaway and Freedom plans come with unlimited miles. The Commuter plan comes with 500 miles/month after which it’s 40¢/mile.

How does the Commuter plan work?

Get a dedicated car every week Monday through Friday. We'll deliver you a car every week by Monday morning 7am that you can keep until Friday 7pm. There is no rollover of unused days and holidays are excluded. Miles are billed at 39¢ which includes gas cost. You can use the car on weekends or holidays for an additional $49/day + 39¢/mile.

"Spending $700-1,000/month to own a car doesn’t make sense from a value standpoint. We only need a car about once a week, which we mostly use to get out of the city on weekends."
